Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has emphasized the government’s commitment to a borderless Africa, referring to visa restrictions as “barriers that weaken the continent’s shared identity.”
During his address at the Accra launch of the Trans-Africa Tourism and Unity Campaign, Mr. Debrah underscored the importance of free movement for the economic and cultural integration of Africa.
Visa-Free Travel
Africa’s GDP receives over $190 billion each year from tourism.
The potential impact of a borderless Africa could see ree movement would not only benefit tourism but also expand trade and cultural exchange across the continent including:
- Double intra-African tourism by making travel easier for citizens.
- Create jobs in hospitality, transport, and related industries.
- Strengthen local economies through increased visitor spending.
Trans-Africa Tourism and Unity Campaign
The campaign, which began in Accra, will see campaigners embark on a 163-day, 40,000-kilometre journey across Africa. The team aims to:
- Advocate for visa-free travel across the continent.
- Engage African heads of government to push for policy reforms.
- Work with media partners to amplify the call for unity.
