Students at KNUST turned a petrol-powered Toyota Corolla into an electric car.
The project, shown off at the alumni homecoming , is getting praise from the university community, leaders in the industry and citizens all around the country.
From Petrol to Electric
The vehicle was stripped of its internal combustion engine and rebuilt with new EV parts.
This initiative shows KNUST’s emphasis on practical research and fixing problems.
The faculty said the project was not only about showcasing technical skills but also finding transport solutions for Ghana that could actually work on a large scale.
This project supports global carbon emission cuts and promotes sustainable transport in Ghana.
The KNUST prototype provides a useful model for converting current cars to electric versions and cutting dependence on imported fuel, as local EV interest rises.
University officials confirmed that the conversion process will be documented and published as a technical guide for students, institutions, and entrepreneurs.
The team is also working towards securing funding to expand future projects similar to this one.
