Actor Mawuli Gavor shared how one creative gig paid more than a year at KPMG, prompting his career shift from corporate to the creative economy.

From KPMG to the Creative Economy
Mawuli Gavor, a Ghanaian actor and model, shared the reasons behind his decision to leave his corporate role at KPMG and pursue a full-time career in the arts.
In an interview with Blac Volta, he explained that the turning point came when a single project in the creative space paid him more than his entire yearly salary at the multinational firm.
Back then, Gavor was earning GH¢770 a month at KPMG. He found himself struggling between the prestigious corporate job and the growing opportunities in entertainment and modeling.
Balancing Corporate and Creative Work
Gavor recalled the constant clash between his nine-to-five schedule and creative gigs. Meetings and photo shoots often overlapped with his work hours, leaving him overcommitted and exhausted.
He remembered a photo shoot that started five hours behind schedule, which in turn made him late for his office job
Life-Changing Offer
Everything changed during his time working with Martini, a global drinks brand. Gavor explained that when he told the brand he was thinking of leaving creative work, they asked about his yearly earnings at KPMG.
After he shared the figure, Martini offered to pay him the same amount in a single day.
“That moment sealed my decision. I just had to send a message to my HR at KPMG to resign,” Gavor revealed.
Money vs Time
While money was the catalyst, Gavor stressed that his real motivation was freedom. The creative economy gave him control over his time in a way corporate life never could.
This shift in perspective, he admitted, is why he struggles to imagine ever returning to a traditional corporate career. Key Takeaway
Mawuli Gavor’s story highlights the trade-off many professionals face between financial security and personal freedom.
